KILLING JESUS
LAURA MORA | 2017 | Colombia, Argentina | Spanish | 99 MIN
Cast: Natasha Jaramillo, Giovanny Rodríguez, Camilo Escobar, Carmenza Cossio
Well-to-do university student Paula (Natasha Jaramillo) is traumatized after witnessing the brutal murder of her professor father. Frustrated with the inaction of the local police, Paula attempts to move past the painful event by partying with her friends. A chance encounter in a seedy nightclub brings her face to face with Jesús (Giovanny Rodríguez), who Paula recognizes as her father’s killer. Hell-bent on avenging the death, Paula pretends to be romantically interested in Jesús as a means to get closer to him. Yet as she’s drawn deeper into the young man’s world of poverty and crime, Paula’s desire for revenge is complicated by a recognition of Jesús’s humanity. Inspired by events from her own life, Laura Mora’s searing debut feature offers new surprises for the viewer at every turn.
