MARY POPPINS
ROBERT STEVENSON | USA | 1964 | 139 MIN | G | ENGLISH
Disney’s MARY POPPINS introduced the cinematic world to stage treasure Julie Andrews in the iconic role that inspired generations to take just a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine, and other world wearies, go down. After his children’s unruly behavior leads to the departure of their nanny, the uptight Mr. Banks (David Tomlinson) is desperate for a commanding presence at home. But when Mary Poppins (Andrews) is magically blown onto his doorstep and shrewdly convinces him she is right for the duty, the Banks home will never be the same again. Poppins, with the children in tow, is whisked away through paintings and onto sooty London rooftops with questionably-accented Bert (Dick Van Dyke) and animated flourishes. Filled with magic and life lessons around every corner, Walt Disney’s first live action film would become a blueprint for the House of the Mouse’s future films that continue to captivate young and old audiences alike.
Dive into the magic of Mary Poppins with family-friendly fun before the movie, including crafting and imagination play that will combine Mary’s world with our own. Activities to begin 1 hour before the screening.
Cast: Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson, Glynis Johns
