AND TOMORROW THE ENTIRE WORLD

JULIA VON HEINZ | France, Germany | German | 2020 | 110 MIN

After joining up with a group of anti-fascist activists, a young woman finds herself increasingly drawn to the group’s most radical faction in this German thriller.

In the German city of Mannheim, law student Luisa (Mala Emde) leaves her privileged background behind to join a progressive commune at the behest of her idealistic best friend Batte (Luisa-Céline Gaffron). The group’s activities are mostly innocuous, dedicated to vegan cooking and throwing raucous house parties, but a small faction—led by charismatic, promiscuous Alfa (Noah Saavedra)—has more radical plans. In contrast to the group’s general commitment to peaceful protest, Alfa is intent on fighting the neo-Nazis’ fire with fire. After her first protest goes violently awry, Luisa is both shell-shocked and oddly hooked. As Luisa gets closer to Alfa and increasingly involved in planning the group’s most dangerous operations, the lines between her political convictions and her personal feelings becomes hazardously blurred. Directly responding to the troubling rise of ultra-right fascism in Germany, And Tomorrow the Entire World is a hyper-relevant and furiously entertaining exploration of the possibilities and limitations of activism in a time of unprecedented unrest.

CAST: Mala Emde, Noah Saavedra, Tonio Schneider, Andreas Lust
