A HERO

Asghar Farhadi | France, Iran | PERSIAN | 2021 | 127 MIN

Asghar Farhadi (A SEPARATION, PFF25’s THE SALESMAN) returns with a gripping moral drama about an imprisoned man whose selfless act garners him both fame and suspicion.

Behind some of the most celebrated international titles of the decade, two-time Academy Award-winner Asghar Farhadi is renowned for his trademark ability to weave fast-paced, electrifying domestic dramas out of everyday Iranian life. One of Farhadi’s most acclaimed films yet, A HERO follows amiable and scheming Rahim (the phenomenal Amir Jadidi), who is out of prison on a temporary leave. Rahim is desperate to settle a years-old debt that has brought shame upon himself and his family, but pleas to his uncompromising debtor Braham (Mohsen Tanabandeh) fall on deaf ears, making Soltani’s future in prison all but certain. When Soltani jumps at a chance for redemption built on a dubious act, he sparks a national media storm that brings him fame and a chance for a better future but may also prove to be his undoing. Winner of the Grand Prix prize at the Cannes Film Festival, A HERO ranks as one of the master filmmaker’s most complex, satisfying works.

CAST: Amir Jadidi, Mohsen Tanabandeh, Sahar Goldust, Fereshteh Sadr Orafaie
