ALL DIRT ROADS TASTE OF SALT
In this evocative and richly textured feature debut from award-winning poet and photographer Raven Jackson and producer Barry Jenkins, we follow one woman’s life journey across multiple decades, witnessing the moments both significant and mundane that add up to a life. Coming of age in rural Mississippi, Mack (played at different stages by Kaylee Nicole Johnson, Charleen McClure, and Zainab Jah) experiences momentous joys and heartbreaks, as well as many quietly revelatory moments simply learning to engage with the environment around her. Jackson’s nonlinear storytelling approach highlights the cyclical nature of family traditions and inherited knowledge, piecing together fragments of memory to create an impressionistic quilt. Shot on lush 35MM, ALL DIRT ROADS TASTE OF SALTtranslates Jackson’s evocatively sensorial vision to the screen, reveling in the textures and sensations of Mack’s world, which is always deeply informed by the rhythms of nature. A breakout hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Jackson’s debut marks the arrival of a distinctive and uniquely gifted cinematic talent.
