DEEP SEA
All young Shenxiu (Tingwen Wang) dreams about is her absent mother, who abruptly disappeared. As she clings to nostalgia, she struggles to connect with her father, who roughly insists life should go on. And it does. Soon she has a new stepmother and sibling to contend with, and they all embark on a family cruise the day of Shenxiu’s birthday, which everyone has conveniently forgotten. Shenxiu becomes even more despondent as she is rendered invisible by her father and stepmother, who are only focused on her baby sibling. Alone in every sense of the word, Shenxiu travels to the ship’s deck at the height of a raging storm, and a miscalculation sends her flying overboard. In a miraculous turn of events, she plunges into an immersive world below, encountering the enigmatic entity known as Hyjinx and an underwater restaurant helmed by talking sea animals and a mischievous chef named Nanhe (Xin Su). Desperate to find her mother, Shenxiu embarks on a turbulent quest with her new underwater companions. In this thrilling adventure, director Xiaopeng Tian employs innovative animation techniques, creating an awe-inspiring visual extravaganza sure to wow viewers of all ages.
