Featuring awe-inspiring performances from Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan, the latest from director Garth Davis (LION, PFF25) is a remarkably devastating sci-fi story about what makes us human. As the planet heats up and its resources are all but depleted, humanity has begun the inevitable mass migration to the stars. Struggling farmer Junior (Mescal) and his wife, Henrietta, (Ronan) remain on Earth to tend to their barren farm and work menial jobs. One evening, a mysterious man named Terrance (Aaron Pierre, THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD) offers Junior a position on his corporation’s orbiting space station. In his absence, Terrance proposes the creation of an exact AI robotic replica of Junior to keep Henrietta company during the yearslong excursion. As the couple begins the arduous monitoring and data retrieval process for the AI Junior, they will uncover deep secrets that threaten to derail the mission before it even begins.
