RAGING GRACE
Undocumented Filipina immigrant Joy (Max Eigenmann) is barely scraping by in the UK as a house cleaner, forced to drag her rambunctious daughter Grace (Jaeden Paige Boadilla) with her to gigs while she’s subjected to constant, patronizing jabs from her arrogant clients. Desperate for extra dough, she takes a live-in job at the mansion of elderly, terminally ill Master Garrett (David Hayman), despite the house’s spooky vibes and the brutal condescension of Garrett’s imperious niece Katherine (Leanne Best). Joy does her best to keep her head down and keep Grace’s presence a secret, but it soon becomes clear that there are forces much darker than garden-variety snobbishness at work in this house of horrors. Winner of the Grand Jury Award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, RAGING GRACE marks the arrival of an exciting new filmmaking talent with writer-director Paris Zarcilla, who has crafted an innovative blend of scathing social satire and deliciously over-the-top Gothic horror. Joy’s latest job might be more ghoulish than most, but the horrors of exploitation and racism that she faces are all too commonplace.
