THE BOOK OF SOLUTIONS
From his beginnings as one of the music industry’s most innovative video directors to his emergence as a bona fide indie auteur with films like ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, Michel Gondry’s cinematic legacy is marked by innovative visual storytelling and whimsical creativity. With his first feature in eight years, this master of proudly handcrafted storytelling turns his gaze on the filmmaking process itself. In a wittily self-reflexive comedy of errors inspired by Gondry’s own misadventures behind the camera, Pierre Niney (FRANTZ, PFF25) stars as Marc, a gifted but exasperating director who’s gone so far off the rails with his latest project that his producers are starting to panic. Before they can take away his magnum opus, Marc flees to his aunt’s country house with his footage and some loyal crew members in tow. Unwisely quitting his medication cold-turkey, Marc leads his long-suffering team on a series of increasingly surreal diversions. Though Marc’s megalomaniacal escapades might be a nightmare for his crew, they make for an uproarious delight in Gondry’s endlessly imaginative hands.
