THE TASTE OF THINGS
Set in 1885, this luminous romance stars Juliette Binoche as Eugénie, a cook who has worked for 20 years alongside celebrated chef and restaurateur Dodin Bouffant (Benoît Magimel). Though the two have an undeniable romantic connection, Eugénie has so far rebuffed Dodin’s marriage proposals, determined to maintain her independence as the couple channels their feelings into scrumptious, magnificent culinary creations. Conscious of the fact that their partnership may not last forever, Dodin decides to cook an elaborate meal for the woman who has always worked tirelessly by his side. Best known for his Oscar-nominated breakthrough THE SCENT OF GREEN PAPAYA, French-Vietnamese filmmaker Trân Anh Hùng delivers a sensuous and impeccably made ode to pleasures both erotic and gastronomic. Winner of Best Director at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and selected as France’s official entry for the Best International Feature Oscar, THE TASTE OF THINGS is one of the most mouth-watering cinematic delicacies in recent memory.
