Riveting and excruciatingly intimate, the second feature from Philly native Kit Zauhar displays a knack for ratcheting up tension and offers a compelling display of nuanced and controlled filmmaking. In Philadelphia for a high school reunion, ASMR artist Tessa (Zauhar) and her boyfriend Ben (Zane Pais) have opted to rent an Airbnb room for the weekend. They are taken aback when they arrive to find not their supposed host, but awkward and reclusive gamer Adam (Ian Edlund). The three will navigate the confined apartment space for the weekend like a repressed emotional minefield triggered by barely submerged resentments and misunderstandings. This seemingly banal weekend getaway proves to be a turning point in the lives of the three very different individuals. Like the delicate whispers and other visceral sounds created by Tessa for her online videos, Zauhar has the deft ability to deliver a tense, goosebump-inducing chamber drama that truly scratches the insatiable itch for exciting and gifted cinema.
