Diego (Alberto Ammann) and Elena (Bruna Cusí) are thrilled by the thought of life in America, and with Elena winning the visa lottery, their dreams are about to come true. The land of opportunity is within their reach and excitement guides their every move as they touch down on American soil. However, as they inch closer and closer to the immigration check-in, their day of joy is quickly hijacked by the grim reality of xenophobia in America. Even after meticulously packing the necessary documents (and triple-checking when necessary), something is not right, and they are brought in for questioning. The confines of the immigration office bring a halt to their plans, but it’s the searing interrogation from border officials that forces ugly truths about the couple’s relationship to emerge. Question by question, their union begins to dissolve in this hauntingly relevant sociopolitical debut from Alejandro Rojas and Juan Sebastián Vásquez.
